Propaganda or History You Decide

In ancient times, mythology was created to tell the stories of history. Which didn't always have the perfect ending. However, looking back at my blogs there is a pattern of these heroic stories ending happily. The hero always seems to get the girl and save humanity. Why do we make these events out to be better then they were? Is is because we want to reinforce our beliefs in happy ends?
